McHattie wants to attract skilled workers

Mayoral candidate Brian McHattie says Hamilton’s economic future depends on professional, highly skilled workers lured from Toronto and beyond.

“I want our economic development department strategy to be laser-focused on jobs-rich sectors,” McHattie said at a campaign announcement Tuesday morning.

As mayor, McHattie said, he’d focus on the medical, professional, and creative industries, as well as “advanced manufacturing.”

He also says Hamilton should be working on attracting high-profile headquarters to Hamilton, not just “branch plants and warehouses.” City staff should be scouting those businesses — banks, for example — and “poach” them from Toronto.
