Issues: Casino or not?
A controversial pitch for a downtown casino managed to cast a shadow over the 2014 vote before the ball even dropped Jan. 1. Some residents complained about the optics of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. sponsoring Mayor Bratina’s state of the city address in an election year.
Council has tried to douse the divisive debate by voting to make Flamboro Downs the preferred site for any new casino — unless the rural location is proven unfeasible. Don’t bet on that partially-closed door containing casino-related electioneering.
Watch: Would-be casino builders must submit OLG pre-qualification bids by March 13.
